Solid broker for swing trading AUD pairs

I've been using AvaTrade for about 18 months on a standard account. Spreads on AUD/USD sit around 1.1 pips during Sydney session which is fair for a no-commission broker. The AvaProtect feature saved me during the RBA rate surprise last year — paid a small premium but it capped my downside on a 2-lot position. Withdrawals to CommBank take 3-5 business days, nothing unusual there. MT5 mobile app is decent, though the web platform feels a bit dated compared to cTrader.

Great for beginners who want to learn properly

Started trading forex about 8 months ago and AvaTrade's education section actually helped me understand position sizing and risk management. The demo account is unlimited which was perfect for practising. I moved to a live micro account with $250 and the spreads are wider than what I see advertised for raw spread brokers, but I don't pay commission so it works out similar. Customer support replied within a few hours when I had a deposit issue with my Visa.

Reliable but not the cheapest option out there

I trade mainly EUR/USD and GBP/USD on MT4. AvaTrade's spreads are around 0.9-1.5 pips depending on the pair and session. Not the tightest — IC Markets beats them on raw spreads — but execution is solid and I've never had a requote in over a year of trading. The six regulatory licenses give me confidence my funds are properly segregated. Only gripe is the inactivity fee after 3 months, caught me out when I took a break.

Quick walkthrough of the MT5 mobile app

Recorded a short video showing how I set up my charts on the AvaTrade MT5 app. The mobile experience is solid — custom indicators load fine, one-tap order execution works, and the watchlist syncs with desktop. Only downside is you can't do multi-chart layouts on mobile but that's an MT5 limitation, not AvaTrade.

Decent broker but withdrawal times let it down

I've used AvaTrade for about 4 months trading crypto CFDs and gold. The platform itself is fine — nothing special but it works. My issue is withdrawals. First withdrawal took 7 business days to hit my bank account in NZ, and the second time they asked for additional verification documents even though I'd already verified my account. Support said it was a compliance check but it felt unnecessary. Trading experience itself is okay, spreads on gold are reasonable at around 0.35.

Video review — my withdrawal experience

Documenting my withdrawal process with AvaTrade. Submitted a $2,000 withdrawal on Monday, got an email asking for utility bill verification on Wednesday even though my account was already verified. Funds finally arrived on the following Tuesday. Nine business days total. Recorded the whole timeline so other traders can see what to expect.

Spreads widen too much during news events

I scalp EUR/USD during London session and AvaTrade's spreads blow out way too much during NFP and ECB announcements. Normal session the spread is advertised at 0.9 pips but during news I've seen it jump to 5+ pips which completely wipes out any scalping edge. I get that all brokers widen during volatility but AvaTrade seems worse than others I've tried. If you're a news trader or scalper, look elsewhere. For swing traders it's probably fine.
