Why Pip Values Matter

Understanding pip value is the foundation of position sizing and risk management.

Set Accurate Stop Losses

If one pip is worth $10 and you want to risk $200, you set your stop 20 pips away. No pip value = guessing your risk.

Size Positions Correctly

Pip value changes with pair and lot size. A mini lot of EUR/USD is worth $1/pip but USD/JPY is different. Our calculator handles all pairs.

Pip Value Questions

Common questions about pip values and forex calculators

What is a pip in forex?

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest price move in a currency pair. For most pairs (EUR/USD, GBP/USD), a pip is 0.0001. For JPY pairs, a pip is 0.01. Some brokers now offer fractional pip pricing (5 decimal places), but the pip value stays the same.

How is pip value calculated?

Pip value depends on three things: the currency pair, the position size, and your account currency. For a standard lot of EUR/USD with a USD account, one pip is worth $10. The formula is: pip value = (pip in decimal form / exchange rate) x position size. Our calculator does this instantly.

Why does pip value matter?

Pip value tells you exactly how much you'll gain or lose for each pip the market moves. Without knowing pip value, you can't set proper stop losses, calculate position size correctly, or understand your actual risk per trade.
