Ask (Offer)

The price at which a seller is willing to sell a security. Also known as the offer price.

Definition

The ask price (or offer price) is the lowest price at which a seller is willing to sell. When you want to buy, you pay the ask price. The ask is always higher than the bid, with the difference being the spread.

How It Works

  • Quote: 1.1000 (bid) / 1.1002 (ask)
  • Buy orders execute at the ask
  • Ask = right-hand side of quote
  • Also called "offer" in some markets

Trading Tips

1

Watch for ask price when entering long positions

2

Slippage occurs when ask moves before execution

3

During volatility, ask can spike significantly
